Baptismal Liturgy
L: In holy baptism, God frees us from sin and death by uniting us to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through water and the Holy Spirit we are reborn children of God, we are made members of the church, the body of Christ, and we are commissioned for Christ’s ministry of justice and peace. Do you bring yourself to this Sacrament to join us in this life of grace?
I do.
L: People of God, do you promises to support this individual and pray for them their new life in Christ?
Congregation: WE DO.
Profession
L: I ask you to reject sin, profess your faith in Christ, and confess the faith of the church. Do you renounce the devil and all the forces that defy God?
I renounce them.
Do you renounce the powers of this world that rebel against God?
I renounce them.
Do you renounce the ways of sin that draw you from God?
I renounce them.
L: With the whole church, let us confess our faith.
Do you believe in God the Father,
C I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
L: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?
C: I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.*
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
L: Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen

L: I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
C: AMEN.

L: Sustain Ben with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Stir up in each of us the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge, the spirit of joy in your presence, and the fear of the Lord both now and forever.
C: AMEN.

L: Ben, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit, and marked with the cross of Christ forever.
C: AMEN.

Assistant: Let your light so shine before people that they may see it and give thanks to your God in heaven.
Pastor: We are instructed to PUT ON Jesus Christ and walk in our world with God.
