NEWS AND INFORMATION CURRENT FOR OUR SAVIOUR, PLEASE SHARE

Our Church Council gathers Tuesday, April 13, at 7 pm for an important meeting for our business and how and when we open in the house–full, part, 1 or 2 services, weekly/ monthly, etc.

We need member commitments for providing the physical labor for maintaining a safe place for all members when we open!

OUR HUMAN NEEDS BEFORE WE CAN SAFELY OPEN:

For planning purposes, we need FIRM COMMITMENTS for specific dates/times on an ongoing schedule for several months.

Please remember our only paid staff (for the past 5+ years, unlike larger churches fully opened) is: PASTOR DON and a part-time  custodian on weekdays, who only maintain things for us on both levels.

So, here are our needs of people weekly to open, we need leaders NOW, as always!

PERSON 1: TO ORGANIZE and monitor this plan, requires VOLUNTEER 1.;

PEOPLE 3: WEEKLY  to 3 DAYS BEFORE: Team of 2-3 to clean/sanitize Sundays. Chancel, narthex, pews, doors, restrooms, only upstairs;

PEOPLE 5-7: WEEKLY AT ANY SERVICE OF WORSHIP to re-sanitize, all parts of the narthex, chancel entrance points, chancel, and all pews.

No need for deacons, offering plates in the narthex. Maybe a worship liturgy sheet, but no traditional bulletin. No greeters. No visiting in the narthex or after service, outside clear of the stairs.

OVERSEERS (3-5): ALL worshippers have and use face masks (Over their noses); worshippers maintain 6 ft. social distancing in church and hallway. Sorry! Worshippers must sign up at the door of entry!

After every service: clean up (no deacons), sanitize, especially if there are 2 services.

These and more details will be present as we come closer in April and/or  May to in-house worship. BUT NOW, we must organize these often not thought of for regathering, or it delays reentry!

Deepen Your Faith At Our Catechism Class

You can expand your understanding of our faith when you join one of our ministries at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Port Huron, Michigan. Adults may join us in our catechism class, where we will memorize a Bible verse and reflect on our discussions from that week. We encourage children to try our youth ministry, where they will learn more about scripture and perform the service every fourth Sunday.

What Is Catechism?

According to the 1993 Confirmation Ministry Taskforce Report, ELCA, "Confirmation ministry is a pastoral and education ministry of the church that helps the baptized through Word and Sacrament to identify more deeply with the Christian community and participate more fully in its mission."

Catechism: Confirmation Educational Ministry

Each week we review a Bible verse to memorize. Pastor Don goes over the large group theme. Then we will have a small group discussion and reflection with mentors and regroup for final remarks, homework, and closing prayer in our prayer circle. NEXT OFFERING: This fall, enroll by August to order materials.

Youth Ministry

We encourage youth participation and welcome families into our church body. Every fourth Sunday, youth perform the service by reading scripture, greeting, and helping with offerings. Three times a year, they perform the complete service. For younger children, we have youth quiet bags and children's sermons. Children are also encouraged to join our youth choir, and those ages 3 to 13 are invited to join our Sunday school.
Our YOUTH COMMITTEE has met recently and drafting at least1 event monthly for families and youth.
